Plastic Straws

In the last little while I’ve come across establishments announcing that they’re discontinuing using plastic straws. Is this a widespread thing and I’m just not aware?

  1. It is. I run a bar in Dublin and it’s a big thing. We have the option of paper straws or biodegradable plastic ones to replace the old ones. It’s a move to cut out plastic after the recent backlash over plastic in the ocean. There is a lot of single use plastic that is ending up in landfills. Hope this helps.

  2. We have to get rid of plastic one step at a time. Refusing to use plastic straws in a step in the right direction. Some countries have banned them altogether. I am trying to buy fruit and veg that are not wrapped in plastic at supermarkets. I hope paper bags will make a comeback to prevent further polluting and animals dying from ingesting them, both on land and sea. We can all do our bit. 👍
