Q at The Empress

“Q represents Queen and country, a nod to Queen Victoria, with a modern twist on royalty. A singular letter, for a very singular space.”

I’m of the opinion that The Empress Hotel in Victoria has lost much of its charm over the years. However, the Q Lounge is still a great place to rest your feet and people watch. We did just that last weekend, while visiting the city on a day trip.

I have to say that I found the television a bit off-putting given the classy historical venue.

But I love the intricate cherry wood ceiling, and think that the oversized light fixtures are fun.

Immediately after being seated, our server brought us water and some popcorn to nibble on. Weirdest thing, it was dusted with charcoal and it was surprisingly delicious.

My latte was a perfect pick-me-up after a busy day of sight-seeing.

And I thought this use of the old silver was a cute.

EMPRESS CAKE (cassis coulis, hazelnut sponge, signature empress chocolate)

I ♥ NY CHEESECAKE (classic baked cheesecake, preserved summer peach compote)

As the sun dipped lower in the sky it was time to leave for our long commute back to Vancouver.

We’re Marla and Stephanie, two friends separated by a 12 hour drive but not much else. We love to travel. We also love food.
